Hey! Hi! Howdy!

hi friend, my name is Samuel.

i'm flattered that you've decided upon this page. here's a little more about myself.

i studied music at Luther College in Decorah, IA with a concentration in percussion. humorously, i ended up doing much more piano study out of circumstance, where i regularly accompanied voice lessons, seminar performances, jury exams, and recitals. doing this alongside my percussion studies, i've found incredible importance in rhythm when teaching music in general.

my piano tuning education comes from the Piano Technicians Academy, as well as mentorship from another local piano tuner.

if i pride myself in anything as a musician, it is my versatility and wide music knowledge base. through the experiences of studying classical repertoire in college, learning the hits of then & now as a wedding DJ, and crate digging through vinyl collections and music website tags, one can truly learn so much from so many different places.

the best showcase of the above are the solo piano nights i host. think of it as dueling pianos, except i’m dueling myself (heavy!). this can go any which way, as i’ve played everything from Mozart to Michael Jackson to Mac Miller. if you want to see this in action, i have a residency at Bull’s Bierhaus on the final Friday of every month.

my "professional" accompanist credits include (but certainly not limited to): Honors Choirs of Southeastern Minnesota, Mayo Civic Center, Hometown Opera, Choral Arts Ensemble, and MSHSL.

outside of music, i coach and adjudicate for speech & debate programs around the state, and the National Speech & Debate Association recently presented me with the New Coach of the Year award. my love of reading has resurfaced this year, and i review my latest reads through shortform videos on @sammerschillsout.
